Topaz, Delta, Utah, USA
description: AS/KW 2 1/2" tall. Ex Ed David collection. Acquired from Robert Lavinsky in early 2009. Ed David was the science adviser to the late Richard Nixon (former president of the United States). This is a fine representative specimen. I have seen larger crystal and clusters of topaz crystals from this locality but Utah topaz specimens do not even approach the size of those from Brazil, Pakistan, the Urals, Namibia or other important topaz localities. A point which differentiates topaz crystals from Utah is that they occur in rhyolite (a fine grained igneous rock) instead of a granite pegmatite. It is also appealing how Utah topaz is sometimes associated with bixbyite. I would like to acquire a finer quality and more significant specimen of topaz from Utah.
