Elbaite (tourmaline) crystal

LOCALITY: Stak Nala area, Northern Areas, Pakistan

8" long

This high quality, dark-green, mainly translucent elbaite crystal is special for the following reasons:

(a) It is double terminated. Elbaite forms polar crystals. Hence, one termination is pyramidal and the other prismatic.

(b) It is particularly slender so resembles a magician's "wand" in appearance.
This piece was bought from a primary source supplier in 2010.
